Reed back for World Match Play

first_imgUS Ryder Cup standout Patrick Reed will return to the UK this month to contest the 2014 Volvo World Match Play Championship. Press Association Reed, who has won two PGA titles this year, said: “Although we suffered a very disappointing loss at Gleneagles, I enjoyed the competition of my first Ryder Cup and can’t wait to get back out there to play in another match play event in the UK. “With six of the European Ryder Cup players in the field, I am excited to be representing the Stars and Stripes overseas once again at the London Golf Club.” He will also be joined by three-time winner on the European Tour Francesco Molinari, 2014 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Champion Pablo Larrazabal, two-time PGA Tour winner Jonas Blixt and local favourite and winner of the 2006 World Match Play Championship, Paul Casey. The additional qualified players completing the field, which is comprised of 10 of the world’s top 50, are Thongchai Jaidee, Alexander Levy, Joost Luiten, Shane Lowry and Mikko Ilonen. They will compete for a first prize of 650,000 euros (£510,371), with a total of 2.25million euros (£1.76million) up for grabs. The field will be split into four groups of four, with the leading two players from each group moving through to a knockout phase that will be played over the weekend. center_img Reed, who won three of his four matches at Gleneagles, will form part of a 16-man field on the International Course at the London Golf Club, Kent, as the tournament celebrates its 50th anniversary on October 15 to 19. It will see him go head-to-head once again with six members of the triumphant European Ryder Cup team, including defending champion Graeme McDowell, Henrik Stenson, Thomas Bjorn, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Stephen Gallacher. last_img
