A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of 25-year-old Jovon Jommol Anthony, the porter who was crushed to death by a container truck in Linden on Saturday has given the cause of death as multiple crushing injuries. The examination was performed by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) mortuary on Monday.The container truck which ran over the porterAnthony, of 44 Prince Williams Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), died after he was pinned under the truck on which he was working, in the vicinity of the Karakara toll booth and the Guyana Forestry Commission at Mackenzie, Linden.The incident occurred at about 13:00h. Inquiries disclosed that the motor lorry, driven by 28-year-old Floyd Rodney of 121 Ogle Street, Triumph, ECD, was at the time proceeding along the Karakara public road with Anthony on board. The motor lorry, GSS 1407, along with trailer TMM 2242 was proceeding east along the northern side of the road when the deceased disembarked to pay the toll. After doing so, Anthony reportedly jumped back onto the lorry’s gas tank situated on the left side front section while it was still in motion. Anthony, according to reports, lost his grip and fell onto the roadway between the lorry and trailer and was run over by the trailer as a result. He was later pronounced dead on the spot by a doctor attached to the Linden Hospital Complex. Police who were summoned to the scene have since launched an investigation into the incident. The driver of the lorry remains in custody where he is said to be assisting with the investigation.
