‘Old-fashioned’ defensive prodigy Tyias Browning to shine at Everton

first_img Everton defender Tyias Browning Tyias Browning has been ready to grace Everton’s first team for a while, according to his academy boss David Unsworth. The 21-year-old has broken into Roberto Martinez’s side after his backline was hit by a number of injuries early on this season. But Unsworth, himself a former defender, says the youngster is not just in the team to provide cover but to prove himself as a worthy talent.“In my opinion, he has been ready for a while,” Unsworth said. “He’s had to be patient and has shown a fantastic attitude to keep working.“Whenever he has got that opportunity, he has had to be ready when called upon. He’s certainly taken it and I am very proud of him.“It’s just the start of his career and it’s been great to see him in these big games. What people don’t see is the work he has done behind the scenes and the dedication to our club.“He’s an old-fashioned defender who absolutely loves defending,” added Unsworth. “In an age where the modern defender wants to come out with the ball, join in with the midfield and get forward, Tyias is an out-and-out defender.“His pace and power are his obvious massive plus-points and strengths. If you can’t beat him with pace, you can’t outmuscle him either. When you are as big and strong as Tyias, it takes a lot to get past him; an unbelievable amount of skill – or luck!” 1last_img
