Lyca Productions backs out of Ponniyin Selvan. Will Mani Ratnam’s dream project take off?

first_imgFor a long time now, Mani Ratnam has been wanting to adapt the Tamil epic novel Ponniyin Selvan for a period film. The director started the pre-production in 2016 with Mahesh Babu but the project failed to take off.After the success of the multi-starrer film Chekka Chivnatha Vaanam, Mani Ratnam is again making attempts to realise his dream. It was earlier said that Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies are teaming up to produce the mega-budget film.Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Amitabh Bachchan and Mohan Babu were considered for the lead roles. However, looks like the film has hit another dead end with Lyca Productions backing out of the project. Reportedly, for reasons unknown, the production house has called off the deal.Mani Ratnam is currently in talks with Reliance Entertainment for making the film, and the future of the project is uncertain now. It is not clear whether the film will take off any time soon.Ponniyin Selvan is the epic novel written by Amarar Kalki, a popular fiction writer in Tamil.
