This Nick Saban Quote About The College Football Playoff Is Going Viral

first_imgHead Coach Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide speaks to the media during the College Football Playoff National Championship Media Day.ATLANTA, GA – JANUARY 6: Head Coach Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide speaks to the media during the College Football Playoff National Championship Media Day at Philips Arena on January 6, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)Alabama won three of the last five titles of the BCS era. They have done quite well in the first four years of the College Football Playoff. The Tide have been to all four playoffs and reached the title game three times. They’ve won it twice. So, judging by those facts, Nick Saban should love the new system, right? Well, not totally.Saban appeared on The Paul Finebaum Show today at the SEC meetings, and a quote of his is going viral. It has to do with the CFP.It seems Saban’s main beef with the format is that he feels the committee is harsher on teams that lose late in the season than they are on ones that lose early on.“My issue with the playoff is that if you lose late in the season it has a much greater impact than if you lose early in the season” – Nick Saban pic.twitter.com/VArMOp4CT8— Paul Finebaum (@finebaum) May 29, 2018If you can’t figure out why this quote has raised a few eyebrows and caused a few laughs, Alabama suffered its only loss in the last week of the 2017 regular season. That didn’t stop the committee from putting the Tide in the four-team field.Of course, the team that beat ‘Bama (Auburn) was eliminated from the playoff with a loss one week later in the SEC Championship Game. But that was the Tigers’ second loss of the year. If it had only been their first, they’d have probably still gotten in.Many feel Saban is trolling with this quote. Urban Meyer’s Daughter Goes After Jim Rome Over Critical Rant

first_imgGigi Meyer and her fiance.Urban Meyer’s daughters GiGi and Nicki have been very active in supporting their father as he draws criticism from those in the media. On Tuesday, CBS Sports host Jim Rome took aim at the Buckeyes head coach, a day after he held a press conference to signal his return to the sidelines. From Rome’s show:“Urban Meyer thinks the problem in this whole situation was that Urban Meyer was trying to be too good of a guy. The problem was not that he was covering up for a piece of crap on his staff. The problem was Urban was trying to be a saint. That’s all you need to know. After being suspended for three games. After repeated attempts at press conferences, and interviews, and Twitter statements, Urban Meyer thinks that he’s the victim. Urb still thinks that he’s the good guy. And the only person that could possibly believe that at this point is Urban Meyer. This guy’s a liar. He’s flat out lied. The only thing that this attempted rehab tour has proven is that he’s a liar and he still has no idea what time it is. This guy’s garbage. And this attempt to rehab his image is ridiculous. It’s insulting. And nobody should believe what this guy says.”Urban Meyer’s attempt to rehab his image is ridiculous and insulting. pic.twitter.com/wHwxt60HwT— Jim Rome (@jimrome) September 18, 2018On Wednesday, Gigi Meyer replied to Jim Rome on Twitter in defense of Urban Meyer. If only u knew the amount of impact he has had in making this world a better place. I’m sorry your perception has been swayed by the media (so reliable), but you’re only degrading someone who has actually made a difference in this broken world. You dream to be half the man he is.— Gigi Meyer (@GG_40) September 20, 2018She had a few tweets along those lines, as Meyer continues to draw criticism upon his return from his three game suspension.I know #BuckeyeNation knows… but if only the rest of you truly knew the type of person this man is. This means CSK will play the first qualifier at home in Chennai and will get two chances to make it to the final. After Faf du Plessis (96) and Suresh Raina (53) helped Chennai Super Kings to 172 for 5 off 20 overs, KXIP needed to gun down the target in 14.2 overs. KXIP eventually got home in 18 overs and it meant CSK would get two shots at the title clash.MS Dhoni lauded KL Rahul for his aggressive innings on a pitch which he described as not easy to bat on.”You need to give the credit to them. It was not an easy wicket. With 3 spinners, it was difficult to manoeuvre in the first 6 overs,” Dhoni told the host broadcaster after the match.”But KL Rahul batted really well, was ably supported by Chris Gayle and then Pooran towards the end was good with his lusty hits. It was a really good batting effort from their side.”advertisementMS Dhoni said CSK tried everything they could but admitted not much worked on Sunday. However, he praised his bowlers for the way they came back after the assault from KL Rahul.”We did whatever we could, it didn’t work a lot. Quite happy with the way we bowled, despite giving a few runs at the start… That’s something you have to keep in mind, If you can’t win a game, you make sure you get the opposition to get the runs in the most number of overs. you have to quickly adapt, learn and re-assess,” Dhoni said. Also Read | KL Rahul attacks Harbhajan Singh to hit 19-ball fiftyAlso Read | Faf du Plessis hits career-best 96 as CSK batsmen peak at the right timeAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. England drop Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer set for Ashes debut

first_img Reuters LondonAugust 9, 2019UPDATED: August 9, 2019 20:35 IST Jofra Archer is likely to make his Test debut in the 2nd Ashes Test (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSMoeen Ali has been left out of Englnad’s squad for 2nd Ashes TestJack Leach and Jofra Archer find a place in the 12-man squadOlly Stone, who did not play the 1st Ashes Test, has been ruled out with a bad backAll-rounder Moeen Ali has been left out of England’s squad for the second Ashes Test against Australia next week after a disappointing display during a crushing defeat in the opener. As expected, fast bowler Joffra Archer was included in the 12 and looks poised to make his test debut in the absence of England’s record wicket taker James Anderson. The veteran Anderson injured his calf again on the first day of the opening test at Edgbaston which Australia won by 251 runs.Moeen made only four runs in two innings at Edgbaston and his exclusion means left-hander Jack Leach, who batted impressively as a night watchman against Ireland the week before, will likely take over England’s spin bowling duties at Lord’s.Moeen has reached 50 only once in his last 16 Test innings and has also struggled to make an impact with the ball in the previous series against Australia.Somerset left-arm orthodox spinner Leach has taken 20 wickets in five tests. While the loss of Anderson is a major blow to England’s hopes of regaining the Ashes, the prospect of Archer steaming in to bowl his 90mph deliveries will excite England’s fans. The Barbados-born pace bowler made a huge impact at the World Cup when he was England’s leading wicket-taker and bowled the dramatic Super Over at Lord’s which sealed the title for the hosts over New Zealand.Olly Stone, who was included in the squad for the Edgbaston Test but did not play, is ruled out with a bad back.England squad: Joe Root (captain), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.advertisementAlso Read | Shane Warne eyes IPL-like success after appointmenet as coach of Lord’s Hundred teamAlso Read | Global T20 Canada: Shoaib Malik shatters glass window with huge sixesAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
