Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week: Taylor Cunningham – Sr. – Middle Blocker – Huntsville, TexasCunningham continues doing it all for the Bearkats. The five-foot, 11-inch middle blocker committed just three errors on 67 swings (.463 attack percentage) and averaged 4.86 kills per set between the two matches for the week, while also adding 1.29 blocks and 3.00 digs per set. She went for 21 kills with just two errors on 41 attacks (.463) in a 3-1 win against McNeese, including eight kills in the clinching fourth set. Cunningham also added 16 digs for a double-double and posted three blocks. Two days later, she slammed home 13 more scores with just one misfire on 26 swings (.462) against Lamar, adding five more digs and six blocks. Entering this week needing just seven more kills to reach 1,000 for her career, she ranks fourth in the Southland in hitting percentage (.324) and leads in kills per set (3.54) for overall matches. The Sam Houston hometown product also ranks fifth in blocks per set (1.09) and is 13th in digs (3.17). The Huntsville, Texas, product accomplishes a rarity, claiming both the offensive and defensive weekly accolades. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
